PAGEDALE, Mo. — At the corner of Page and Ferguson Avenue in Pagedale sits Midwest BankCentre.
When the Pagedale branch opened in 2012, it was the first regulated bank in the community in over 60 years.
"One of the few in our larger geography, which is chock full of check cashing and payday lending operations. The reality of having a bank that's going to listen to the needs of the community, offer a suite of products that make sense for them to help build their financial well-being and build their wealth," says Chris Krehmeyer.
Krehmeyer is the CEO of Beyond Housing; a comprehensive community development organization working within the boundaries of the Normandy Schools Collaborative.
"10 years ago, more than that, Chris Krehmeyer was asked, What can Midwest BankCentre do for the city of Pagedale, and he boldly said, open a full-service branch. 10 years later, here we are," says Wes Burns, the Executive Vice President of Community and Economic Development at Midwest BankCentre.
"Too often we talk about food deserts, which are real, but there are bank deserts and Doctor deserts and entertainment. There's a whole host of deserts in communities like this, right? So, for the bank to commit to not only be here, have a full-service branch, but have this be the first of several branches that the bank has opened up in the St Louis region to invest in the people and places that have been left behind for far too long," Krehmeyer says.

"The impact here in Pagedale has been monumental. Over the past ten years you've seen a decrease in crime, an increase in average home prices, and the number of small businesses here has more than doubled," Burns says.
