Sponsored: How the T STL is bridging the fatal gaps in care for people at risk for overdose due to trauma

The holistic harm reduction program is an opportunity for everyone in the community to stand up and save lives. Hear how you can help your community.

ST. LOUIS — Everyday, the T STL provides wound care supplies, food, hygiene kits, self care, support and education to those at risk of overdose. But beyond their daily outreach, there is a deeper mission. A mission that requires the entire community. So, are you ready to save a life?

It is a crisis that is growing across the nation, but also, here in our own community.

“If 40,000 lost their lives to gun violence, 100,000 lost their lives to overdose,” says Dr. LJ Punch. “We have focused so much on gun violence but overdose is taking far more lives.”

It was these frightening numbers when Dr. LJ Punch finally decided it was time to take action. Now, the medical director is changing the narrative. Introducing the T STL. The T STL is a holistic harm reduction program that bridges the fatal gaps in care for people at risk for overdose due to trauma related drug use.

Harm reduction is a transformative approach that empowers people who use drugs with the choice to live healthy, purpose-filled lives. The organization does this by providing resources and addressing the trauma.

“It focuses on a way of finding solidarity, recognizing that trauma is the root of many people and it is trauma that we all share.”

Yet, before they can start healing, the T STL is saving. What is the first step to saving these lives? It is the ‘Are u OK’ campaign.

This campaign involves everyone because this crisis is affecting everyone! No matter where you live, your religion, race, occupation, we all have the chance to end the stigma and save a life.

The T STL is distributing ‘Are u OK’ kits every week. These kits are the difference between life and death. In each kit, you can find Narcan, a CPR mask, cleaning wipes, food, and information. but, the organization goes one step further.

Would you know what to do if someone was overdosing? Do you know the signs? You can take classes at the T, or consider having them come to your business, church, school, neighborhood!

“To be OK is also to know and be able to respond to overdoses with an overdose kit.”

Together, we can stop our family, friends, neighbors, community members from overdosing and get them the help they need. Through education, and having the right tools, you can save someone’s life.

If you or someone you know needs help, you can go to their drop in center for services or looking to be trained? They offer a free class on the first Monday of every month, or have Dr. Punch come to your school, business, church, or anywhere for a class and to distribute kits! Learn further information here.
