UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. — For 15 years, the Mannequins Project has turned Delmar Boulevard into a walking art installation from Earth Day through the beginning of June. The community art project aims to bring awareness to the importance of sustainability by using recyclable materials to bring the mannequins to life.
Artists team up with participating University City businesses to create their mannequins. This morning, Mary Thaier met up with artist Romona and the owner of In Da Loop Wood Fire Pizza, Demadison. Romona's mannequin is named "Save Da World". She used menus from the restaurant and other elements like CDs and pizza pans to incorporate the restaurant into the piece of art.
Visit mannequinsproject.com to find an interactive map that will lead you to each mannequin and to vote for your favorite. You can vote daily through June 9.
