BELLEVILLE, Ill. — Summer is off to a great start across the river in Belleville, Illinois! From park revamps to bicycle festivities, there is so much going on in this Great. Big. Small. Town.
I stopped by Bellevue Park to find out more.
"Which is Belleville's first and oldest park. Bellevue Park has had a lot of upgrades," said Emily Riedinger, the Assistant Director at Belleville Parks and Recreation.
From the brand new playground which kids and parents love, to the new addition of pickleball courts, "the band shelter has had a complete makeover. We have new fitness courts, and we have a new gazebo in the park," Riedinger said.
Plus, the newly renovated amphitheater is home to the City of Belleville’s Summer Concert Series!
"It's a lovely place to have concerts here in the park. People bring their lawn chairs, they also bring blankets to sit on. I'm really hoping that people start a new trend, where they also bring picnic baskets. So here you could be playing pickleball and then stay here for the concert and bring your picnic basket with all your friends," said Patty Gregory, the Mayor of the City of Belleville.
"It is a free program for the community. Anybody can come they are on alternating Mondays and Thursdays throughout the summer with a wide genre of music," Riedinger said.
And if you need another reason to head to Belleville this summer, you’re in luck!
The Tour de Belleville bike race is just around the corner on July 12th.
"The festivities will begin at 6:00 pm with food trucks and live music. Then at 8:00 pm, the race will start where riders will pedal through the streets of Belleville again," Riedinger said.
The beloved bike race is making one last run.
"This one is going to be our final goodbye to the Tour de Belleville. So if you have not registered, you need to," Gregory said.
