ST. LOUIS — While November is a month to recognize the amazing caregivers across America, Benedictine also wants them to know that they don’t have to go it alone or feel overwhelmed. Instead, there are resources available, including senior living options that they can consider for their loved one. Today, many older adults still feel the stigma of nursing homes, but Benedictine explains modern senior living communities are nothing like the nursing homes of the past. They share that today’s senior living communities allow residents to begin living independently with perks like housekeeping, home maintenance and access to a wide range of activities and opportunities for social connection. Many communities offer increasing levels of care, from independent living and assisted living to skilled nursing care and memory care. There is also adult day care for those who are not ready to fully make the move into a community.
Yet, talking to a parent about moving to a senior living community can still be incredibly difficult. It might feel easier to wait, but experts say the conversation only gets harder later. Mary spoke with Senior Living Expert and President and CEO of Benedictine, Jerry Carley, about what options are out there. Take a look!
