ST. LOUIS — Saint Louis University freshman Jordan Goodwin was suspended for two months effective immediately as part of the conclusion of a Title IX investigation involving several SLU basketball players.
As part of his suspension, Goodwin was forbidden to play or practice with the basketball team, nor will he be allowed on campus. His father, Tim, confirmed to 5 On Your Side Sports' Frank Cusumano that Goodwin was moving out of his dorm Tuesday morning. He plans to return home to Belleville, Ill. for the time being.
The Title IX investigation, which concluded Monday, found Goodwin innocent of any sexual assault charges, but he was found guilty of violating school policy. 5 On Your Side Sports learned the suspensions of the other three student-athletes involved in the investigation will be upheld. However, two of those students have already left the basketball program. It is unlikely any of the players remain with SLU.
Philadelphia-based law firm Cozen O'Connor conducted the investigation.
Goodwin's father told 5 On Your Side Sports in part, "We will accept it and move on. We are not pleased, but we will accept it."
Last September, three women reported to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department that they were sexually assaulted by three student-athletes at an on-campus apartment on the tenth block of North Grand Street. The three women were treated at an area hospital.
Goodwin, 19, was in the middle of a memorable Freshman season at SLU. Last Saturday versus LaSalle, Goodwin put up 28 points, a career best. Earlier in the season, he recorded the first-ever triple-double in SLU history.
Goodwin was also regarded as one of the most celebrated recruits in SLU history. As a junior at Althoff Catholic High School High School, he led their varsity basketball team to their first-ever Illinois state title championship.
SLU released a statement in response to the conclusion of the Title IX investigation. It reads as follows:
"Saint Louis University has concluded the Title IX investigation that began on Sept. 25, 2017. The parties have been notified of the final decisions, which were determined by an Appeal Panel. With the notifications to the parties, these cases are closed. Throughout this Title IX investigation, the University followed its Sexual Misconduct Policy."
Additionally, Goodwin issued the following statement:
"I take responsibility for a violation of University policy. I am going to take this short time to reflect and learn from this situation. I apologize to everyone who has been affected. I am sad to leave my team, but I look forward to returning to Team Blue in May."
