WASHINGTON D.C., DC — The St. Louis Battlehawks extended their winning streak to four games in a row after a 45-12 win over the D.C. Defenders on Sunday.
The 33-point victory was the largest margin in team history. The win also kept St. Louis atop the XFL conference tied with the San Antonio Brahmas with a 4-1 record.
St. Louis scored a franchise-record 25 points in the fourth quarter and the team's defense had a second-half shoutout for the second consecutive week. It was a weekend filled with franchise records as quarterback A.J. McCarron also hit wide receiver Hakeem Butler on an 80-yard touchdown pass. It was the longest passing play in Battlehawks history and the longest play of any kind in the UFL this season.
McCarron went 14-for-24 with 213 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Butler finished with a season-high two touchdowns and 147 receiving yards, the most by a Battlehawks player this season, the team said.
Kicker Andre Szmyt set a career-high and franchise single-game record with four field goals in the game.
The Battlehawks' defense has three interceptions, two blocked punts, recovered a fumble and had two turnovers on downs, according to the team. The Defenders were held to 163 total yards in the game, the fewest for D.C. this season.
St. Louis will return to The Dome at America's Center at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, to play the Houston Roughnecks.
