ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Battlehawks won home-field advantage in the playoffs after finishing off the regular season with a 13-12 win over the San Antonio Brahmas Saturday.
The game nearly came down to the final play, with Brahmas kicker Ryan Santoso lining up to attempt a game-winning field goal with just seconds left in regulation. The kick twisted wide left, setting up a rematch this weekend to decide who will play in the UFL championship game.
Battlehawks quarterback A.J. McCarron returned from an ankle injury and struggled from the start. He had just one completion in the first quarter and started the second quarter with his fourth interception of the season.
McCarron led the Battlehawks' lone touchdown drive of the game in the second quarter. He completed a 21 yard pass to Jahcour Pearson and a 22-yard pass for a touchdown to Steve Mitchell Jr. on back-to-back plays to start the scoring.
The Battlehawks were out-gained on the day by more than 70 yards, but the defense held the Brahmas to two touchdowns and denied both point-after attempts in the win.
The Brahmas had a one-game lead in the standings heading into Saturday, but the Battlehawks leap-frogged them in the standings after sweeping the season series over the Brahmas. With the win, the Battlehawks will host the XFL Championship Game on Sunday at The Dome at America's Center.
The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are available on all levels, starting at $18. For more information and to buy tickets, click here.
If they win on Sunday, the Battlehawks will have home-field advantage for the UFL Championship Game on June 16. Tickets for that game are already on sale.
