Carl Reed Jr. steps down as De Smet head football coach

He will now focus on his new roles with CBS and 247 Sports as a college football analyst.

ST. LOUIS — After one season with the De Smet Spartans, head coach Carl Reed Jr. announced his resignation. Elite Amateur Sports' Tyler Coleman was the first to break the news. The Spartans finished 8-3 in their lone season under Reed.

Reed came to De Smet from Lutheran North, where he helped the Crusaders cap off an undefeated season in 2019, winning their first state championship since 2001. Reed also coached at Hazelwood West and University City before Lutheran North.

De Smet Jesuit High School released the following statement:

________

Carl Reed has resigned his position as Head Football Coach at De Smet Jesuit to accept another position.

He shared the following message with the players.

Men,

I have been offered opportunities in the game of football that have pulled me away from the daily tasks of being a high school football coach. At this time I am resigning my position as the Head Football Coach at De Smet. The school and I have reached an amicable resolution. I wish all of you luck as you continue your academic and athletic journeys. You can always call me if you need me.

Coach Reed

We wish him well.

Sincerely,

Steve Burr
Vice President of Administration
