UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. — University City High School has named former Mizzou standout Will Franklin as its new head football coach.
The former NFL wide receiver is a native St. Louisan who was a multi-sport standout at Vashon.
After a standout career on the football field, Franklin later served the Mizzou athletic department as coordinator of Student Athlete Development and Player Engagement before joining the Vashon High School program in 2020.
Franklin will replace Derrick Colquitt, who led the University City football team to a Class 3 District runner-up finish to the 2022 season. The team finished last season with a 3-8 record.
Franklin shared the following message with his student-athletes: “I’m here to build you on and off the field,” Will Franklin said. “I have a serious passion about young men. I want to be the person that they didn’t have, or I didn’t have, at their age and be able to give back and give them a path of success.”
Coach Franklin will be part of the planning process for the high school’s new, state-of-the-art, multi-purpose field paid for by Prop U.
The reconstruction of the field will extend its use to soccer, baseball and field hockey in addition to football.
