ST. LOUIS – Legendary University of Missouri St. Louis basketball coach Rich Meckfessel died on June 26.
The 81-year-old died from complications from a recent surgery he had in Savannah, Georgia.
Meckfessel won 214 games for UMSL – which made him the most winning coach of all-time for the school. He was inducted into UMSL’s Hall of Fame in 2007.
He coached the Rivermen for 17 seasons (1982-99) and served as Interim Athletics Director from 1992-95. As Interim Athletics Director, Meckfessel was instrumental in moving UMSL from the MIAA to the GLVC in 1996-97.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
