Heavyweight boxer 'Big Shot' Shaw looking to take next step in his career

His whole life is boxing, his wife Kendra won a bronze medal at the USA Nationals, his father Bryan trains him now and you can't stump him on boxing trivia.

ST. LOUIS — If you love boxing, the Steel Shop in St. Charles is the place to be on Friday night. Eight fights on the card starting at 6 p.m.

And there's a heavyweight who went to Hazelwood Central High School who has a chance to be a champion.

When he walks into the gym, he often thinks about knockouts.

"It's a hell of a feeling, it's an exhilarating feeling," Stephan Shaw said. "You get a certain kind of rush and when the crowd is in tune with it and then if it's one of those crushing hard knockouts."

Stephan "Big Shot" Shaw, 31, has wrapped up the tape 21 times as a professional. He's won 19 times with 14 knockouts and he knew at a young age that this would be his job.

"Some guys go in the backyard and play catch with their dad. My dad got on his knees and put me on boxing gloves with him and we wrestled around in boxing gloves," he said.

His whole life is boxing; his wife Kendra won a bronze medal at the USA Nationals, his father Bryan trains him now and you can't stump him on boxing trivia.

Shaw is 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds and he says the nickname works.

"I land nothing but big shots," he said.

Now the four-time National Champion is trying to take the next step in his career. He is ranked in the Top 10 in America and dreams about a title shot.

"It will truly be a blessing from God. I'm looking to do good on the opportunity and win and capture the heavyweight championship, if I get that opportunity and I feel like I'll get it," he said.
