Report: Giancarlo Stanton won't OK trade to Cardinals

The sad news is that he would be alright going to the Cubs.
Giancarlo Stanton #27 of the Miami Marlins looks on during a game against the Atlanta Braves at Marlins Park on April 29, 2014 in Miami, Florida.

Reigning National League MVP Giancarlo Stanton is not willing to accept a trade to the San Francisco Giants or St. Louis Cardinals, two teams the Miami Marlins had worked out trade proposals with, according to an MLB Network report. Stanton's no-trade clause means he has to agree to a trade for a deal to transpire.

Stanton, instead, is interested in a trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers or New York Yankees, according to MLB Network. Stanton has also zeroed in on the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros as potential destinations, according to a Sirius XM report.

The Marlins, under new CEO Derek Jeter, are trimming payroll as part of their organizational building process. Stanton will make $25 million in 2018 and has $295 million remaining over the last 10 years of his contract.

The Winter Meetings, when clubs talk face-to-face and trades often materialize, begin Monday in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
