JUPITER, Fla. — The St. Louis Cardinals announced Friday that manager Oliver Marmol has signed a two-year contract extension.
The contract extension runs through the 2026 Major League Baseball season. Marmol's contract was set to expire at the of the 2024 season.
“Oli is a well-respected member of the Cardinals organization, who came up through the ranks of our player development system, and has made a nice transition to managing at the Major League level,” Cardinals’ Chairman Bill DeWitt, Jr. said. “We are pleased to have Oli under contract for the next three seasons.”
This season will be his third as the Cardinals manager. He has a 164-160 (.502) record with the team. In 2022, he led the team to a National League Central division title but fell short in the playoffs against the Philadelphia Phillies.
In 2023, St. Louis recorded their first losing season since 2007, finishing with a 71-91 record.
“Over the past two seasons, we have experienced a lot of different emotions, both up and down, and through it all, Oli has helped navigate us through these challenging times,” Cardinals’ President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak said. “Oli has the support of our players, our coaching staff, and the front office.”
Marmol has been part of the organization since 2007. He was named to the Cardinals' Major League coaching staff in 2017 before becoming the team's manager on Oct. 25, 2021.
