St. Louis Cardinals promote former WashU pitcher Ryan Loutos

Ryan Loutos, a Barrington, Illinois, native, pitched with WashU's Division III team from 2018-2021.

ST. LOUIS — Former Washington University pitcher Ryan Loutos has been called up to the big leagues for the St. Louis Cardinals.

St. Louis selected the contract of Ryan Loutos from the team's Triple-A team, the Memphis Redbirds, and optioned Chris Roycroft. First basemen/outfielder Alfonso Rivas III was designated for assignment. 

Loutos, a Barrington, Illinois, native, pitched with WashU's Division III team from 2018-2021. He signed a minor league contract with the Cardinals in 2021 and has worked his way up the system. 

He started the 2024 season with Memphis, appearing in 13 games so far, pitching for 15.2 innings and recording a 1.72 ERA.

The Cardinals are back in action Monday night versus the Baltimore Orioles, the first out of a three-game series. The Chicago Cubs will be in town this weekend for a three-game series versus St. Louis.
