ST. LOUIS — In a last-minute trade, the St. Louis Cardinals sent outfielder Dylan Carlson to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for a right-handed pitcher.

Shawn Armstrong, 33, has appeared in 38 games this season for Tampa Bay. He has recorded seven starts and has posted a 2-2 record with a 5.40 ERA. Last season, he struck out 54 batters in 52 innings pitched with the Rays, allowing two home runs and 11 walks.

He has pitched for the Cleveland Guardians, Seattle Mariners, Baltimore Orioles, Miami Marlins and the Rays over his 10-year career.

On Monday, the Cardinals announced that they had traded Tommy Edman and minor league right-handed player Oliver Gonzalez to the Los Angeles Dodgers. St. Louis acquired pitcher Erick Fedde and outfielder Tommy Pham from the last-place Chicago White Sox.

The Cardinals sit with a 54-52 record and are two games back from a National League Wild Card spot as of Tuesday afternoon.
