Former Cardinal Matt Holliday among newcomers on Baseball Hall of Fame ballot

The results will be announced on Jan. 23, 2024.

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. — Former St. Louis Cardinals player Matt Holliday is among 12 new candidates on the 2024 Baseball Hall of Fame ballot.

José Bautista, Adrián Beltré, Bartolo Colon, Adrián González, Victor Martinez, Joe Mauer, Brandon Phillips, José Reyes, James Shields, Chase Utley and David Wright were also named to the 2024 ballot. 

Several players returned to the ballot including Todd Helton, Billy Wagner, Carlos Beltrán and Álex Rodríguez.

Candidates must receive 75% of votes to be elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The results will be announced on Jan. 23, 2024.

Holliday played 15 seasons in Major League Baseball, eight with the Cardinals. He was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 1998 Major League Baseball Draft and made his debut in 2004. 

The outfielder played for the Cardinals from 2009-2016. In 982 games in St. Louis, he hit .293 with 1,048 hits, 237 doubles and 156 home runs. He was also part of the 2011 Cardinals World Series winning team.

Overall, he is a seven-time All-Star, a four-time Silver Slugger Award winner as a left fielder and finished with a .299 batting average, 316 homers and 1,220 RBIs. 

Former Cardinals player Scott Rolen was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame with 76.3% of the vote in 2023. He was inducted alongside Fred McGriff on July 23.

He played 17 years in the MLB with the Phillies, Cardinals, Blue Jays and Reds. He hit 316 home runs, drove in 1,287 runs and hit .281. He is a seven-time All-Star, eight-time gold glove winner and a 2006 World Series winner.
