LOS ANGELES — The St. Louis Cardinals will begin its 2024 Major League Baseball season on the road Thursday versus the Los Angeles Dodgers.
And the Cardinals made history before the first pitch of the season was even thrown.
St. Louis is the first team since 1924 to have four position players in their Opening Day lineup who are 23 years old or younger.
- 2B Nolan Gorman, 23
- CF Victor Scott II, 23
- SS Masyn Winn, 22
- RF Jordan Walker, 21
Victor Scott II was added to the Cardinals roster following an injury to outfielder Dylan Carlson in spring training. Masyn Winn will also begin his first full season with the Cardinals after joining the team late in the 2023 season.
Jordan Walker made the Cardinals Opening Day roster last season. He also made history last year with the team when he had a hit in 12 consecutive games to start his MLB career. He tied with Eddie Murphy who also did the same in 1912
Nolan Gorman made his MLB debut during the 2022 season and made the team's Opening Day roster as a designated hitter in 2023.
