St. Louis Cardinals to honor, celebrate Whitey Herzog on July 10

"Whitey Herzog Night" will honor and celebrate the life of the team's former manager against the Kansas City Royals at Busch Stadium.

ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Cardinals will honor and celebrate late Hall of Fame manager Whitey Herzog on July 10. 

"Whitey Herzog Night" will honor and celebrate the life of the team's former manager against the Kansas City Royals at Busch Stadium. 

A special pregame ceremony will be held with members of the Herzog family, including his three children, Debra, David and Jim. Cardinals Hall of Famers Ozzie Smith, Willie McGee, Ted Simmons, Chris Carpenter and Jason Isringhausen will also attend the ceremony. 

The Cardinals will also give 15,000 fans, ages 16 and older, attending the game a t-shirt featuring the "White Rat." Additionally, 10,000 fans entering with a ticket will receive a Whitey Herzog decal, the team said.

Herzog was a native of New Athens, Illinois. He managed the Cardinals to a World Series Championship in 1982 with a dynamic, fast-paced playing style known as "Whiteyball." The team's success continued into the late 1980s, making two more World Series appearances in 1985 and 1987.

He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010 and had 1,281 career managerial wins with the Cardinals, Royals, Rangers and Angels. He was also elected as an inaugural member of the Cardinals Hall of Fame in 2014.

Herzog died on April 16, 2024. He was 92.
