UFC featherweight Champion Conor McGregor appeared to announce his retirement with a cryptic Twitter message on Tuesday.

The tweet had the following text: "I have decided to retire young. Thanks for the cheese. Catch ya's later."

Later in the day, Nate Diaz, who is scheduled to rematch McGregor in the main event of UFC 200 on July 9, chimed in on Twitter with an apparent reply to McGregor.

“I guess my work here is done I’m retiring too,” Diaz wrote.

McGregor's coach, John Kavanagh, also posted his own tweet, saying “Well it was fun while it lasted.”

McGregor, 27, lost to Diaz via submission at UFC 196 in March, McGregor’s first loss in the UFC and first as a professional since November 2010.

A message left with a UFC spokesperson was not immediately returned.
