Wilms' tumor, a rare type of kidney cancer that occurs in children, at the end of August. Ellie recently started chemotherapy, causing her hair to fall out.

To show solidarity through her chemo fight, her Uncle Alex was more than happy let little Ellie shave his head.

Monday also marked the start of the NHL's Hockey Fights Cancer initiative. Through Nov. 17, each team across the league will hold a special Hockey Fights Cancer Night to draw awareness to the disease.

For his part, Pietrangelo has taken Ellie's fight to social media trying to raise funds for her treatment.
