Former Blues Head Coach Craig Berube joining Maple Leafs

Craig Berube led the St. Louis Blues to its first and only Stanley Cup championship in 2019.

ST. LOUIS — Former St. Louis Blues' Head Coach Craig Berube is joining the Toronto Maple Leafs staff.

Berube was named the next head coach of the Maple Leafs, the team announced Friday. He replaces Sheldon Keefe, who was fired following a loss in the first round of the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs. Keefe had been the head coach of the team since 2019.

Berube was "relieved of his coaching duties" with the Blues in December 2023 following struggles through the regular season and missing the playoffs the season prior. Springfield Thunderbirds Head Coach Drew Bannister was named interim head coach.

Bannister would later take over as full-time head coach as the Blues signed him to a deal following the 2023-2024 season.

Berube took over as head coach in the middle of the 2018-2019 season for the Blues, and led them to the franchise's first and only Stanley Cup championship that year.

In his time with St. Louis, he compiled a 206-132-44 record as head coach and took the team to the playoffs every season expect the 2022-2023 campaign. He was also named a finalist for the 2019 Jack Adams Award.
