A Blues legend and local businessman has died at 78.
Mike Shanahan, a Missouri Sports Hall of Famer, the former owner of the St. Louis Blues and a very successful businessman has passed away, not long after recovering from lung transplant surgery.
Mike Shannahan was a football and soccer star at Mercy High School before building his company, Engineered Support Systems. But to people in St. Louis, he was simply the Chairman of the Board of the St. Louis Blues.
Shanahan was a fighter to the end. He recovered from double lung transplant surgery. His recovery was going well, but he never recovered from a fall on Thursday.
His philanthropy is well known in our area. The atrium at the business school at St. Louis University, where he graduated, is named after his him.
