ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Blues will select No. 16 overall in the 2024 National Hockey League Draft this summer, the league announced Tuesday.
St. Louis missed the playoffs for a second consecutive season, finishing with a 43-33-6 record (92 points). The Blues will have the 16th overall pick in the NHL Draft.
Participating teams in the Draft Lottery could only move up 10 spots, meaning only the top 11 seeds were eligible to win the first overall selection.
The No. 1 overall pick went to the San Jose Sharks, with the Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks selecting second and third, respectively.
The 2024 NHL Draft will take place from June 28-29 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Blues announced ahead of the Draft Lottery Tuesday that they have signed Drew Bannister to a two-year contract extension as the team's head coach. He served as the interim head coach after the mid-season firing of Craig Berube.
Bannister took over the team on Dec. 12 after a 6-4 loss to the Detroit Red Wings dropped the team to 13-14-1 on the season. In the final 54 regular season games, the Blues posted a 30-19-5 record and finished just outside of the playoffs.
Bannister becomes the 27th head coach in franchise history. His predecessor, Berube, also served as interim head coach before getting the job full-time. Berube took the team to a Stanley Cup championship in his interim season.
