ST. LOUIS — St. Louis native Brandon Miller finished in 8th place in Round 1 of the men's 800-meter race on Aug. 7. He was just 1.37 seconds short of qualifying for the semifinals. Next, he will compete in the repechage round at 5:24 a.m. CDT on Aug. 8 for a chance to advance.
Here are five things you should know about him:
- As a sixth grader at Fort Zumwalt Middle School, 11-year-old Miller clocked the fastest time in the nation for the 800-meter, the 1500-meter and the 3000-meter relays as well as the fastest time in history for his age in the 800 and 1500.
- The now-22-year-old Olympian graduated from John Burroughs School in St. Louis, where he set a freshman national class record in the 800-meter.
- Miller signed with Texas A&M University and won two NCAA indoor championships in the 800-meter and 4x400-meter relays during his sophomore season with the Aggies.
- At the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Oregon, Miller qualified for the Paris with his fastest time ever in the 800-meter (1:43:97).
- Miller isn’t the only star athlete in his family. His brother, D.J. Miller, another John Burroughs grad, signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as a cornerback in April.
