5 things to know about Team USA's DeAnna Price

ST. LOUIS — A decorated hammer throwing champion and native of Moscow Mills, Missouri, DeAnna Price is returning to the Olympic stage this weekend. 

Here's five things to know about the Olympian:

  1. This is Price's third time at the Olympics! She also competed in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, placing eighth both times.
  2. Price has competed in hammer throw four times at the World Athletics Championships in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2023. She won gold in 2019 and bronze in 2023.
  3. Price holds the American record for hammer throw at 80.31 meters (263 feet, five inches), which she earned when qualifying for Tokyo 2020. That puts her in second place for the world record, which is held by Polish athlete Anita Włodarczyk at 82.98 meters (about 272 feet, 2.92 inches).
  4. Price has endured several injuries throughout her career, including a dislocated shoulder, broken scapula, torn abdominal, torn MCL, and a stretched ACL and PCL.
  5. Her interests include painting, walking her dog, playing softball and hunting.

DeAnna Price competes on Aug. 4 in qualifying rounds for women's hammer throw: Group A is at 3:20 a.m. Central Time and Group B is at 4:45 a.m. Central Time. 

The finals are on Aug. 6 at 12:57 PM Central Time.
