Jonathan Owens: St. Louisian who is married to Olympian Simone Biles

As Simone Biles etches her name even deeper into Olympic history, we learn more about the St. Louis roots of her husband, Jonathan Owens.

ST. LOUIS — As Simone Biles continued to dominate at the Paris Olympics, many people are learning about Jonathan Owens, her supportive husband.

Biles has claimed three gold medals so far in Paris, including one in the vault final Saturday. Yet with so much gold around her neck, let's learn more about the ring around her finger and the legendary CBC football player who put it there.

Owens and Biles are one of the most iconic sports couples in the country right now.

Walking the Christian Brothers College High School football field on Saturday where 2013 graduate Owens used to play was nostalgic for his former football and track coach Moses Regular.

"Jonathan was cool, calm and collected," the outside linebacker and special teams coordinator Regular said. "He was very coachable."

In high school, Owens won CBC Linebacker of the Year. In part, thanks to plays like one against SLU High School in October 2012. You can see footage in the third quarter where the Junior Bills have the ball but not for long.

Owens comes out of the pile and is end zone-bound. He ran in a 40-yard score.

Fun fact: CBC won that game 51-7.

He still keeps in touch with his high school coaches.

"He shot me a text a couple years ago and we do a scoop and cow drill, [Owens] said, 'Hey coach I've still got it.'" Regular remembered. "So that was an awesome thing."

Owens played college ball at Missouri Western State, then signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2018.

A year later, he signed with the Houston Texans, which is where he met Biles in 2020. The couple connected through social media while both working and training in Texas.

After dating for two years, the couple got engaged and married in 2023.

The 29-year-old safety signed with the Chicago Bears during the offseason. This week, he got time off from training camp to watch his wife win gold twice.

Biles also won gold Saturday in the vault final, taking her to double digits with 10 Olympic medals.

"The height, me and my wife talk about it all the time, just 12-13 feet in the air, then being able to stick the landing is amazing to me," Regular said about Biles' vault performance on August 3.

Biles came to CBC last year for Owens' annual free youth football clinic at CBC, teaching kids from 8-years-old to 15-years-old football and life skills.

"I've got a picture of him throwing balls in the drills," CBC Defensive Coordinator, Butch Dimovitz, said. "He's up there with every kid high-fiving them. Tries to get to know every kid by name if he can. That's just a testament to the kind of person that he is."

This summer, Owens is cheering on Biles from the sidelines.

The love of his life showed off her diamond GOAT necklace in Paris as the greatest gymnast of all time. The Bears say Owens is scheduled to be back at training camp tomorrow. Biles has only two events left in Paris.

Getting ready to stun the world once again on Monday for the balance beam and floor finals.
