ST. LOUIS — Paris is hosting the Olympics for the first time in a century, promising a stellar two weeks of athletic excellence.

The Opening Ceremony is a spectacle that honors the host country, the spirit of the competition and the traditions of generations past.

Thousands of athletes will sail along the River Seine toward the Eiffel Tower on dozens of boats. It will be the first time in the Games' modern history that the Opening Ceremony is outside a stadium setting.

The 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony will take place at sunset in Paris on Friday, July 26.

The Opening Ceremony officially begins at 7:30 p.m. local time in Paris. That means it will start at 12:30 p.m. Central Daylight Time (CDT).

When can I watch the Opening Ceremony?

NBC is showing the Opening Ceremony live at 12:30 p.m. CDT on 5 On Your Side. You can also watch it in prime time at 6:30 p.m. or catch it again just after midnight.

Who is hosting the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony?

Singer Kelly Clarkson and NFL legend Peyton Manning will join sportscaster Mike Tirico in Paris as hosts of NBC's Opening Ceremony coverage along the Seine.

NBC's coverage will also include Maria Taylor on the Team USA boat, as well as "TODAY" hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, who'll be stationed along the river. 

When is the Closing Ceremony?

The Closing Ceremony on Aug. 11 is scheduled to be in the Stade de France national arena after it hosts track and field in the final week.
