ST. LOUIS — St. Louis CITY SC's head coach and three players were named finalists for the 2023 MLS Year-End awards.
Major League Soccer announced the finalists for the 2023 Year-End Awards on Thursday with four CITY SC names on the list. Winners will be announced throughout November.
Eduard Löwen is a finalist for the MLS Newcomer of the Year award. The midfielder had a career-best season in goals (six) and assists (14) this season. His 14 assists tied for fourth-best in the league.
Giorgos Gioakoumakis of Atlanta United and Lionel Messi of Inter Miami were also named finalists.
The winner will be announced on Nov. 2.
Vice-captain and defender Tim Parker is one of three finalists for the MLS Defender of the Year. He tallied a career-best four goals, including CITY SC's first goal in franchise history. Parker helped CITY SC's backline to eight shutouts this year.
Seattle’s Yeimar Gómez Andrade and FC Cincinnati’s Matt Miazga are the other two finalists.
The winner will be announced on Nov. 8.
Captain and goalkeeper Roman Bürki was voted a finalist for the Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year. He finished second in the leage in saves with 123, and advanced metrics said he stopped nine goals more than the average keeper over the course of the season.
FC Cincinnati’s Roman Celentano and Orlando City’s Pedro Gallese were also voted as finalists.
The winner will be announced on Nov. 9.
Head Coach Bradley Carnell was named one of three finalists for the Sigi Schmid MLS Coach of the Year. He led St. Louis to a 17-12-5 record, 56 points and first place in the Western Conference during their inaugural season.
The 17 wins by St. Louis were the most by an expansion team and the Western Conference regular-season title was the first time an expansion team finished atop their conference, a press release said.
FC Cincinnati’s Pat Noonan and Columbus’ Wilfried Nancy were also named finalists.
The winner will be announced on Nov. 21.

St. Louis CITY SC will make their playoff debut at 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29 against Interstate 70 rival Sporting Kansas City.
