You'll have to stay up late to watch St. Louis CITY SC playoff debut

Get ready to stay up late if you want to watch CITY SC's first playoff match.

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis CITY SC is less than a week away from making its postseason debut, but fans will have to wait a little while longer than they wanted.

On Sunday, the team announced its debut would come at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29. CITY will face Sporting Kansas City. Kansas City beat San Jose 4-2 in penalty kicks Wednesday night in the Western Conference Wild Card match.

Here's everything we know about CITY's first-round matchup.

When

  • Game 1: 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29 at CityPark
  • Game 2: 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, location TBD
  • Game 3 (if necessary): 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at CityPark

Where to watch

Game 1 will be available on Fox Sports 1 and Fox Deportes. All three games will also be available on MLS Season Pass.

Tickets are available for all the home games through SeatGeek.com. As of Monday, the cheapest tickets available for Game 1 were $115.

CITY is hosting a free watch party at CityPark for Game 2. The watch party will be held at the Ultra Club in CityPark. Tickets are required for the event. The free tickets will be available to fans starting at 10 a.m. on Oct. 31.

If you can't score tickets to CityPark, you can find a watch party in your own neighborhood with one of the bars and restaurants that are part of the team's CITY on Tap partnership. To find a participating location, click here.

How they stack up against KC

CITY won two of three matches against Sporting Kansas City this season. Both of the wins came at CityPark. The close proximity of the teams quickly created a rivalry in CITY's inaugural season.

Sporting Kansas City has been in MLS from the start, debuting as a charter team in the league in 1996. They were known as the Kansas City Wiz in their first season and the Kansas City Wizards from 1997 to 2010. Starting with the 2011 season, they rebranded as Sporting Kansas City.

The franchise has won two MLS Cup titles(2000 and 2013) and four U.S. Open Cup titles(2004, 2012, 2015 and 2017).

What's next?

CITY holds the top spot in the Western Conference, meaning they will have home-field advantage throughout the Western Conference playoffs. If they reach the MLS Cup Final, there are three Eastern Conference teams that would host the match over CITY SC. FC Cincinnati, Orlando City SC and the Columbus Crew would all host the final if they made the final.

If they advance to the second round, CITY will face the winner of the LAFC-Vancouver series.
