Heading to St. Louis CITY SC's home opener? Here's what you need to know

A recap of the 2023 season, watch parties, parking and more!

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis CITY SC is back in action and will kick off its second Major League Soccer season on Saturday.

CITY SC made its Concacaf Champions Cup debut Tuesday night against the Houston Dynamo, a separate tournament from the MLS regular season. A late game-winning goal by Hosei Kijima helped St. Louis defeat Houston 2-1.

After last year's historic season, St. Louis is hoping to continue making history.

CITY SC will face Real Salt Lake at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at CityPark. Before the match, there will be watch parties, a block party at CityPark and a concert for fans to enjoy.

Here's what you need to know:

Recap of 2023 season

St. Louis won five straight games to start the season, claiming 15 points. Only two other teams did so in their first five games, the 1996 LA Galaxy and 2012 Sporting Kansas City.

The team also set the record for the best start for an expansion team when it won its fourth, surpassing the 2009 Seattle Sounders.

CITY SC became the first expansion team in MLS history to win a conference title during its inaugural season, finishing with a 17-12-5 record. The team's 56 points were the second most by an expansion team in MLS history. The 17 wins set the record for the most wins by an expansion team.

In the 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs, St. Louis would fall to rival Sporting Kansas City in the Best-of-3 series in Round One.

Is the team hosting a block party?

Yes!

Just like last season, St. Louis will host a free CITY Block Party to kick off the 2024 season at CityPark's Lou Fusz Plaza.

Fans don't need a ticket to attend the block party and it's open to the public.

The block party will feature food and drinks, games, giveaways and performances. St. Louis native and rapper Smino will headline the party ahead of the home opener.

The block party begins at 4 p.m. and fans can also watch the match on Lou Fusz Plaza beginning at 7:30 p.m.
