Washington University women's soccer team advances to Final Four

The Bears will face Messiah in the semifinal at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 30.

ST. LOUIS — The No. 2 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team is dancing as it advanced to the Final Four on Saturday. 

WashU beat UW-La Crosse 5-4 on penalty kicks and earned a trip to the Final Four of the Division III NCAA Tournament. This is the Bears' sixth time in the Final Four in program history.

The Bears scored four goals in regulation with two goals each from Grace Ehlert and Julia Moore. The winning goal in the shootout came from Allie Hackett.

WashU recorded 16 shots, with 10 on goal, and goalkeeper Sidney Conner made two saves for the Bears. 

The women will face Messiah in the semifinal at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 30. The championship will be held on Dec. 2. 

Two other St. Louis area college women's soccer teams were in action in Division I and II of the NCAA Tournament. No. 7 Maryville University fell to No. 3 Grand Valley State 2-1 in the second round of Divison II. 

No. 6 Saint Louis University earned their trip to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history on Friday in Divison I. But, the Billikens fell to No. 2 Penn State 4-3, ending their run in the postseason. Saint Louis had previously won 12 games in a row, the second-longest streak in the country.
