ST. LOUIS — Saint Louis FC announced that the U.S. Open Cup Fourth Round match against the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer (MLS) on Tuesday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m. will be played at Harlen C. Hunter Stadium at Lindenwood University, due to minor flooding at the World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
This will be the first time Saint Louis FC has played a game in St. Charles County and only the second time that an MLS team has played in the St. Louis region after the Chicago Fire won 1-0 at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in front of over 6,000 fans in 2017.
Saint Louis FC has faced an MLS team on only two previous occasions with the first being in 2015 when the team lost 1-0 to Sporting KC.
“We are excited to bring Saint Louis FC, and our Major League Soccer opponent, to St. Charles County. This change in location represents an opportunity to bring professional soccer to another area of St. Louis,” said Patrick Barry, STLFC President. “The silver lining with our minor flooding situation is being able to add another community field to the long list of locations that have hosted a U.S. Open Cup match in this historic city.”
The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest national soccer tournament in the country with a proud history of St. Louis champions dating back to 1920 at Hadlan’s Park which is now the campus of Saint Louis University.
There have been 11 champions from St. Louis since the tournament started in 1913 with the most recent being the St. Louis Busch Seniors who won in 1988 at the Soccer Park.
Lindenwood University will join the historic list of venues for the U.S. Open Cup in St. Louis along with Hadlan’s Park, High School Field, Sportsman’s Park and Soccer Park.
All U.S. Open Cup matches will broadcast live on ESPN+.
