ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Two people were killed in a crash involving two passenger cars and one semi-truck on northbound Interstate 55 Tuesday afternoon.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash happened near the Butler Hill exit of I-55 at around 3 p.m. Four right lanes were initially closed, but two of those lanes have since re-opened.
A spokesman for the Missouri State Highway Patrol said the semi-truck and one of the passenger cars were stopped in traffic next to each other. A Ford F-150 did not stop for traffic and slammed into the passenger vehicle and pushed it into the semi-truck. The female driver was killed in the crash and the male passenger of the car died at the hospital.
The driver of the F-150 was taken to the hospital.
Traffic in the area was being affected by the hazardous material spill on 270. About an hour before this crash, there was a hazardous material spill on northbound 270 where drivers from both directions of I-55 enter 270.
