2 killed in Venice, Ill., crash following police pursuit

The accident is under investigation.

VENICE, Ill. — Two people were killed in an early morning police pursuit in Venice, Ill., early Wednesday morning.

Just before 5 a.m., first responders were called out to Cedar Street along Route 3 in Venice for reports of a car accident. The road was closed to traffic shortly thereafter.

Early Wednesday around 3:30 a.m., Venice police responded to the Pink Slip Nightclub in Brooklyn, Ill., after a man displayed a weapon at officers. The man then fled in a black Nissan truck, who later crashed into another car along Route 3.

The driver of the Nissan and his passenger were killed in the wreck. According to police, the truck caught fire after it flipped under the McKinley Bridge.

Around the same time Wednesday, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a truck along southbound Highway 141 and Interstate 64 in St. Louis County, Missouri Highway Patrol confirmed. That incident is also under investigation.
