2 people hospitalized after West County watermelon truck crash

A small section of Barrett Station Road is shut down and police are investigating whether a mechanical failure may have been involved in the crash.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Two people were hospitalized after a crash in Des Peres that tipped a tractor-trailer carrying watermelon on Friday afternoon.

The accident happened at the intersection of Manchester Road and Barrett Station Road. A spokesperson for the St. Louis County Police Department said police received a call for the accident at around 2:50 p.m.

Police said a man was driving a tractor-trailer westbound on Manchester Road approaching Barrett Station Road when he clipped a traffic light and turned north onto Barrett Station Road, hitting a car waiting at the traffic signal.

The driver of the tractor-trailer had minor injuries and the woman driving the car sustained moderate injuries. Both were taken to a local hospital.

The West County EMS and Fire Protection District assisted at the scene.
