A man was killed and another seriously injured in a crash along Riverview Drive Tuesday morning.
Gary Elmer, a 64-year-old St. Louis man, was pronounced dead at the hospital after a crash near the intersection of Riverview and Valley Drives.
Police said Elmer was driving his 2007 Honda Accord around 6:15 a.m. when he tried to make a turn onto Valley Drive, he collided head-on with a man driving a 2009 Dodge Challenger.
The driver of the other car was taken to the hospital. He was listed in serious condition.
Riverview Drive was closed for more than an hour.
This was the third deadly accident on Riverview Drive in three months and there have been a total of four fatal accidents along the stretch of state run road since the beginning of the year.
Neighbor say they are fed up and want something done about what they say is dangerous driving a constant speeding on Riverview.
Police say speed may not have been a factor in each case, but agree speed is a problem in the area.
Alderwoman Dionne Flowers says the city's traffic enforcement is understaffed. So she's trying to get the Governor's attention. She hopes the state troopers he's sending to patrol St. Louis interstates can add state roads like Riverview to their routes.
“I respect our city's finest but there's something about a trooper that kind of gets a little bit more of your attention and I think if people saw the troopers down here they may slow their roll a little bit,” says Flowers.
MoDot is scheduled to widen the road make other improvements that the alderwoman hopes will help, but that's not scheduled to happen until 2019.
