TROY, Ill. — Illinois State Police investigated a deadly crash Wednesday morning in front of Triad High School in Troy, Illinois.
Police said the crash happened at about 7:15 Wednesday morning near the intersection of Glen Rae Drive and U.S. Route 40 West. A 2006 Suzuki Vitara was struck on the passenger side after driving into the path of a westbound 2021 Mazda CX-7, a press release said.
Madison County Coroner Stephen Nonn identified the victim Thursday as Catherine Leathers, 81, of Troy, Illinois.
The driver of the Suzuki Vitara was transported to a St. Louis-area hospital with unknown injuries, the release said on Thursday.
The driver of the Mazda refused medical treatment at the scene.
A school spokesperson said the crash did not involve any students or school employees.
Video from the scene showed a red SUV with significant damage to the passenger side of a red SUV and front end damage to a silver SUV.
Traffic was diverted from Illinois Route 162 and Bethany Lane. The road was closed for more than an hour while troopers investigated. Highway 40 reopened at about 10 a.m.
Illinois State Police and the Madison County Coroner's Office are investigating the crash.
