ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. — A man and a woman died early Sunday morning in a St. Charles County crash, and Missouri State Highway Patrol attributed it to "careless and imprudent" driving.

Larry Larsen, 55, of O'Fallon, Missouri, was traveling westbound on Interstate 70, east of Lake St. Louis Boulevard, at about 2:20 a.m. Sunday, according to the crash report. He was following another car too closely and ended up striking it from behind.

The passenger of the second car, 61-year-old Kristi Anderson of West Des Moines, Iowa, was ejected from the vehicle, according to the report.

The two cars continued westbound before traveling off the road and into an embankment. The second car overturned, and the driver, 59-year-old Steven Anderson of West Des Moines, was ejected.

The Andersons were pronounced dead at the scene.

Larsen was uninjured in the crash and arrested for driving while intoxicated resulting in the death of two or more people. He was being held at the St. Charles County Jail.
