Police release photo of suspect vehicle in hit-and-run that killed pedestrian in St. Louis County

The intersection of St. Charles Rock Road and Normandy Avenue was blocked off Tuesday morning as crews investigated.

ST. LOUIS — A man died early Tuesday morning after he was hit by a car at the intersection of St. Charles Rock Road and Normandy Avenue.

St. Louis County police responded to a call regarding the crash at about 2:50 a.m. Tuesday and arrived to find an adult man lying on the ground. The driver of the vehicle had fled the scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for life-saving treatment but was later pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Marquist Murray, of St. Louis.

This marks the third pedestrian hit and killed by drivers in three different areas in St. Louis County between Monday night and Tuesday morning.

A driver hit and injured a woman at 7:30 p.m. Monday night off Jennings Station Road and Florence Place. About an hour later, another driver hit and killed a woman in a five-car crash off Woodson Road in Overland. Both drivers remained on the scene.

5 On Your Side spoke to people in St. Louis County who are upset about too many lives lost, and angry over dangerous roads. One of those people is a pastor right next to the intersection where the man was hit and killed Tuesday morning. He said he sees hit-and-runs like this all the time.

"Almost every night we see or hear something," Yaner Marty, a pastor at Iglesia Pentecostal El Redentor, said.

He's been a pastor at the church for six years. When he first arrived, he said the area was nice and quiet.

Now, his once nice and quiet life on St. Charles Rock Road has been rocked.

"Every now and then, accidents happen at the crossing light right on the light at Normandy and St. Charles Rock Road."

5 On Your Side also talked to Safer Streets for Kirkwood and St. Louis County. A spokesperson said it's time for all parties responsible in St. Louis to come together and fix our streets.

"Look at what we have today," Michael Carmody said. "The results of this is what we're living with, and it doesn't have to be this way. It can be fixed."

Carmody said our streets lack structure and enforcement.

"The first thing that can be done that can be done immediately is to address the outdated Complete Streets Ordinance in St. Louis County."

Marty said he wants to see some of the same changes.

"More police would be a plus," he said.

These days, he's preaching more than just religion, but safe habits, to the members of his church.

"Be careful, open your eyes, because there is danger out there," Marty said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident at St. Charles Rock Road was asked to contact Detective Matt Geisman at 314-615-5400 or mgeisman@stlouiscountymo.gov.

Anyone with information regarding the incident at Jennings Station Road was asked to contact the St. Louis County Police Department at 636-529-8210 to speak with investigators.
