Fiery semitruck crash closes I-70 westbound in Wentzville for hours

MoDOT reported the crash was cleared and all lanes were reopened at about 8:45 a.m.

WENTZVILLE, Mo. — All lanes of westbound Interstate 70 in Wentzville were blocked for hours following a fiery tractor-trailer crash early Thursday morning. All lanes have since reopened.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol Cpl. Dallas Thompson, a jackknifed semitruck caught fire sometime around 5:30 a.m. on westbound I-70 at Mile Marker 208.

Wentzville police said all of the interstate's westbound lanes were closed from Highway Z to Wentzville Parkway, though traffic could enter I-70 West from Wentzville Parkway.

Eastbound I-70 lanes were open but flowing slowly, police said and advised drivers to seek an alternate route to avoid the traffic congestion.

The westbound lanes were shut down for several hours as crews worked to extinguish the fire and remove all vehicles involved, Thompson said.

The Missouri Department of Transportation reported the crash was cleared and all lanes were reopened at about 8:45 a.m.
