ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. — This week, we're On the Move in St. Charles County for a report about the traffic situations you can expect.
Maybe you found yourself near the road construction in St. Charles County near Interstate 70 and Route 79 during last weekend's holiday travels and asked yourself, "What's going on here?"
We're talking about the second phase of the Improve I-70 Project.
MoDOT's Jack Wang said, "Everything with the I-70 and Route 79 bridges are still on schedule. And the Cave Springs and Zumbehl interchanges are pretty much wrapped up."
The three bridges along I-70 that will be working on this week are the Spencer Creek Bridge just west of Route 370, the Belleau Creek Bridge and the Dardenne Creek Bridge. I-70 will have lane closures around these bridges, but the interstate won't be fully blocked. But traffic will be heavy with lots of drivers.
Also, the contractor for the improved I-70 project between Warrenton and Wentzville has not been selected yet but will be announced later this fall.
When it's finally finished, this will be the largest highway construction process in MoDOT's history. Then, of course, it should be much more efficient to drive.
