This I-44 ramp closure in St. Louis could affect your commute

The ramp to Gravois Avenue will stay closed for one more week. Here's how to navigate the closure.

ST. LOUIS — Drivers coming across from the Metro East during the morning commute may want to take note of a big ramp closure off of Interstate 44 in the Soulard area.

The Missouri Department of Transportation closed the ramp from westbound I-44 to Gravois Avenue last week, and it will stay closed for one more week. Crews have been working on curbing, drainage and guardrails.

The closure is south of Interstate 64/Highway 40, after you made the choice to go on I-44 from coming across the river. But its location is actually off Interstate 55: 44/55 at Gravois ramp.

This could bog drivers down because it comes up quickly. Here's the alternate route: Continue on westbound I-44 to the Jefferson Avenue exit, then turn left at the end of the ramp to Russell Boulevard and take a left on Russell to Gravois Avenue. Keep an eye out for those detour signs.

So much of the road in south St. Louis City along this stretch is being remade. It's quite an endeavor for MoDOT in the city.
