EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. — A major weekend road closure in St. Clair County could affect travel plans for some Metro East drivers.
The Illinois Department of Transportation will conduct bridge work this weekend that requires the closure of northbound/eastbound Interstate 55/70 between Interstate 64 and Interstate 255 interchanges. Weather permitting, the road closure will begin at 9 p.m. Friday and reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. Monday.
Posted signs will direct drivers to use I-64 and I-255 as detours around the closure, according to IDOT.
IDOT asked drivers who must travel through the area to pay close attention to changing road conditions and posted detour signs, obey posted speed limits, refrain from using cellphones and be alert for workers.
