When will I-70 construction wrap up in Wentzville?

5 On Your Side viewers asked what's going on in Wentzville. We went to MoDOT for answers.

WENTZVILLE, Mo. — "I-70 in St. Charles is a constant construction mess and has been for a long, long time!" 5 On Your Side viewer Mary Beth told us.

We asked, "What is your biggest traffic headache these days?" And we received quite a few complaints along those lines, like the one from Kendra Stimac Hammack. She said "The new roundabout off the highway in Wentzville is awful!"

So, we really wanted to get some answers for you. The plans for this stretch or road are massive. We asked MoDOT Chief Engineer Andy Tuerk what's going on with all of this construction and what the future holds for drivers in that area.

"So, what happened earlier this spring with the governor's push for I-70 funding and the General Assembly also making a push, we got a pretty big influx of funding for I-70," Tuerk said. "We'll be adding lanes, capacity, corrections, things like that … A lot of these designs are from the 1950s and 1960s."

The roadway construction you encounter doesn't seem to be ending any time soon, with the exception of it moving up and down the interstate. But when it's finished traveling that area should be much better.

"So, the bottleneck project and the big interchange, the 64/40, I-70 interchange would now all be wrapped up into one. honestly by the time it's all said and done, it will probably be the biggest project that that we've ever awarded in MoDOT history," Tuerk said.

It should all wrap up in 2026.
