ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Two area road closures will impact your travel this weekend – one in south St. Louis County and one in north St. Louis County.
Near Kirkwood and Crestwood, MoDOT is closing Interstate 44 at the Big Bend bridge, beginning 11 p.m. Friday. Crews will close the interstate in both directions to place girders and panels on the new bridge, which is expected to be completed by September.
Traffic will be routed up and over the ramps, but drivers can expect much slower travel times through the weekend. Drivers on Big Bend are highly encouraged to use alternate routes to get to I-44 to reduce the impact for through interstate traffic.
Three lanes in each direction of I-44 should reopen by 5 a.m. Monday. One lane in each direction of I-44 will remain closed through August. Big Bend over the interstate will also remain closed through August while MoDOT finishes constructing the new bridge over the interstate.
Drivers heading eastbound from southbound Big Bend Road can take I-44 westbound to Lindbergh Boulevard and turn east. Drivers heading westbound from northbound Big Bend can take I-44 eastbound to Elm Avenue and turn west.
In north St. Louis County, MODOT will close New Florissant Road between Dunn Road and Pershall Road - directly under I-270 – overnight Friday. It will allow MoDOT to pave the first portion of the new eastbound I-270 bridge over New Florissant Road. That road closure will be in place from 8 p.m. Friday night until 8 a.m. Saturday.
The closures and construction work are part of the $278 million I-270 North Project infrastructure upgrades.
