ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A man from Florida was struck and killed Sunday night along Interstate 55 in south St. Louis County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 8:15 p.m. Sunday on northbound I-55 north of Meramec Bottom Road.
A crash report said 44-year-old David Earl, of Live Oak, Florida, was stopped on the right shoulder with his 2005 Hyundai Elantra.
A 2009 Infiniti G37X was passing a 2015 Kia Optima on the right shoulder when it struck Earl and then struck his car, the report said. The Infiniti then struck the right side of the Kia and ran off the right side of the roadway, overturned and struck a rock bluff.
Earl was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Infiniti suffered minor injuries while the passenger suffered serious injuries.
The northbound lanes of I-55 were closed for the three-car crash but have since reopened.
