ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. — You'll need to plan accordingly for the entire week if you use Interstate 64 and Interstate 70. That's because the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will shut down several lanes.
Crews will first close the left lane of I-64 going westbound. This will happen in an 8-mile stretch from Route K to Prospect Road. The closure will happen every day from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. until Friday, April 19.
Then crews will close the left lane of I-64 eastbound between the same roads from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday. That will last until April 25.
For those in Wentzville, the left lane of eastbound I-70 between David Hoekel Parkway and Wentzville Parkway will close daily from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. until Friday, April 19.
Warren County drivers will see delays Monday night. There are several lane restrictions along I-70 near Route 47 in Warrenton and another near Wright City.
These closures are in preparation to widen I-70 to three lanes which is a part of the Improve I-70 program. The work happening this week will be to survey for Project 2 of the plan.
Project 2 improvements include:
- Add a third lane of travel to eastbound and westbound I-70 between Warrenton and Wentzville.
- Realignment at the railroad bridge on I-70 between Wentzville Parkway and Route Z.
- Interchange improvements at I-70 and I-64/Route 61.
- Add a third lane of travel to eastbound and westbound I-64 between I-70 and Route K.
Construction for Project 2 is set to happen from 2025-2028.
Missouri's fiscal year 2024 budget from the General Assembly and signed into law by Gov. Mike Parson provides $2.8 billion in General Revenue for the costs of a third lane expansion on I-70 across the state.
The program will plan, design, construct and reconstruct in each direction for nearly 200 miles of I-70 from Blue Springs near Kansas City to Wentzville.
