CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill — A deadly crash closed southbound Interstate 255 in the Metro East Tuesday morning, according to state police.
According to the Illinois State Police, the crash happened around 5:35 Tuesday morning in the southbound lanes of I-255 near Illinois 157. The department described the crash as a fatal, two-vehicle crash but did not immediately say how many people were killed.
Monday afternoon, the St. Clair County coroner identified the crash victim as 69-year-old Charmane Gallant.
Traffic is being re-routed to Illinois 157 to avoid the area while officers investigate.
No other information about the crash was provided.
