Victim identified in south St. Louis crash that left 1 dead, another injured

Police said the vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed and did not stop at the stop sign before striking the semi-truck.

ST. LOUIS — One person died and another was hospitalized after a crash involving a semi-truck in south St. Louis Thursday afternoon, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said.

The crash happened at about 2:50 p.m. near South 2nd and Sidney streets in the city's Kosciusko neighborhood, near Soulard. 

A 2005 Pontiac G6 was traveling eastbound on South 2nd Street at a high rate of speed when it did not stop at the stop sign and struck the 2019 Freightliner semi-truck, police said.

Both drivers were transported to an area hospital, the department said. 

The driver of the Pontiac was pronounced dead. Monday afternoon, police identified him as 35-year-old Brant Renfro of Salem, Illinois.

The 62-year-old driver of the semi-truck was listed in stable condition.
